Bearing Witness: Five Years Reporting in Iraq

9th April - 25th May 2008

Idea Generation launches new gallery with an exhibition of unflinching
images from Reuters to mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq
.

Through five years of brutal war, a team of 100 Reuters correspondents, photographers, cameramen and support staff have strived to bring continuous news to the world from the most dangerous conflict in the history of war reporting. A powerful new exhibition, opening on 9th April at the Idea Generation Gallery in Shoreditch, provides a dramatic retrospective of the war through the testimony of Reuters journalists on the frontline.

The exhibition combines news photography, compelling video and information graphics for rich visual story telling through the conflict. It provides a revealing insight into the daily obstacles faced by reporters on the ground. It also incorporates the experiences of Reuters journalists, including Alastair Macdonald and Samia Nakhoul - who was seriously injured when a US shell hit the bureau the day before the fall of Baghdad, and who broke the story of orphan “Little Ali” who lost both arms in a missile attack.

Set in the spacious new venue of the Idea Generation Gallery, the exhibition extends across the two floors of the gallery. This is the first exhibition to launch at the Public Relations agency’s new space. Hector Proud, MD of Idea Generation commented: “This is such a powerful, bold and moving exhibition; we are thrilled to be working with Reuters to launch the gallery”.

Jassim Ahmad, Head of Visual Projects at Reuters said: “This is a tribute to 125 journalists who have died in the conflict, including seven colleagues, and testament to the bravery and tenacity of those who have born witness through half a decade of conflict”.
